Snowball and boxer both symbolized Old Major's dream of an animal utopia. They, however, were invested in the effort differently. In the Battle of Cowshed, Snowball relished in the planning and execution of the fight. He charges farmer Jones and even gets an "Animal Hero" medal out of it. Boxer uses brute force even killing a man buy crushing his skull. Boxer, however, feels no pleasure from this. While Snowball basks in the glory of a decisive human defeat, Boxer laments about taking life,

"I have no wish to take life, not even human life," repeated Boxer, and his eyes were full of tears.
