What clues are there in the account of the Battle of the Windmill that Napoleon might be a coward and that Squealer probably is a coward?

i can't seem to find this one, can someone help me out?

1) Napoleon kept to the rear and out of the battle itself.

Even Napoleon, who was directing operations from the rear, had the tip of his tail chipped by a pellet.

2) Squealer was absent during the fighting.

As they approached the farm Squealer, who had unaccountably been absent during the fighting, came skipping towards them, whisking his tail and
beaming with satisfaction.
