Although there is of course no way to know for sure, many have argued that Mr. Whymper represents many Marxist intellectuals of the 20th century who were willing to disregard the blatant discrepancies in the Soviet Union on behalf of their sympathy for the political ideology. He "benefits" by reinforcing his life's work, but he runs into problems when the secrets of Animal Farm's terrible record of overworked and underfed citizens reveal themselves.
