Nose rings are a way for farmers to control their cattle. A clip-on ring is design used for controlling cattle for showing, handling or other control purposes. It is hence a symbol of human domination over animals much like a harness,
"And the fruitful fields of England Shall be trod by beasts alone. Rings shall vanish from our noses, And the harness from our back..."
