Benjamin reads the lettering on the side of the van: “Alfred Simmons, Horse Slaughterer and Glue Boiler, Willingdon. Dealer in Hides and Bone-Meal. Kennels Supplied” (123). He had been right about the animals lives because was the one animal who was cynical from the start. He worked along the other animals, but he never believed the maxim.
