Falwell's call to action had everything to do with homophobic hate speech, regarding gays, as any sort of evangelical nirvana. Prior Walte was having his own religious experiences. Prior is visited by the Christian metaphysical, even an angel proclaiming him a prophet. Prior, and other gay characters, must reconcile their religious beliefs with the religious right who claim that homosexuals were sick and revelling in their perversions.
