As we know the inspector is a police office (as we would call him today).Context: Back in the day people where separated into classes : high class, middle class and low class. The lower class people are stereotypically know as poor people and often the women are pregnant and not married and if one pupil of the high class found out they would suspect that the women who is unmarried and is pregnant would often think that she was in prostitution. The Birling family are all high class and they look at lower class people really bad. They are basically capitalists meaning that if you owned a business u would care more about yourself and the money and you wouldn't care about your workers. the workers are basically low class people meaning that most of the high-class people are capitalists. they are selfish. Mr birling doesn't like the idea of all the classes being mixed up in the line ''bees in the hive''

the inspector comes half way through act one. he is shown to be a socialist meaning that he cares about his workers and gives 10% of his earning to pay them their work if that makes sense.Priestley the writer of the play, (if you read about him online) presents his point of view and his opinion and how people must look at lower class people and everyone in a good way and respect them. socialist point of view basically.

hope this helps :) my name is Natalie and i am in year 10 this might not cover everything about the inspector but that might give you an idea of how Priestley shows the inspector in the play.

when i explain what 'capitalism' and 'socialists' mean i gave a example of a business thats because my teacher gave my class this example and somehow it really gave me a good understanding of the meaning and it just helped in general . Soon i will be having a test and i feel like answering these types of questions here are a good way of revision. i need to practise on my PEA paragraphs LOL

wish me luck guys <3 byeeee :)
