Sheila may note how excited she was to be engaged, but she was still a little suspicious of what Gerald had been up to that summer. She is secure in her position as daughter and fiancee.

After the Inspector gives details of Eva's Smith's dismissal from Milwards, Sheila is penitent. Her juvenile reaction to the pretty girl is petulant, and quickly dismissed from Sheila's mind. The Inspector has encouraged her to think more deeply about her actions and her treatment of other people.
