All the Pretty Horses

What do horses represent?

I know this is a quite dumb question; however, Grady dreams and constantly thinks about horses. So, I was wondering what the symbolized.

This is not a bad question at all. Horses are a major symbol in this book. Horses are a constant symbol in every conflict. They are a symbol of manhood and independence. Horses are whan men, in todays culture, admire in their cars. A man is measured by what horse they ride, how they handle it, and buy the number of horses he owns. Horses are also a mythos that trancend man. There is a sanctity about them that is separate from the world of men,

Finally he said that among men there was no such communion as among horses and the notion that men can be understood at all was probably an illusion.
