In the movie, Finch uses sticky notes and writes things down on them. What is the point of this?

In the movie, Finch writes things such as quotes, and things that appear to be important to him. For example, at one point he writes "BECAUSE SHE SMILED AT ME" on a blue sticky note. I would like to know what the point of this was. It was very artistically added, but I am curious as to why.

Finch puts ideas, good words, song lyrics, quotes, and things that remind him of Violet on the notes. I think this is partly artistic and a little obsessive.
