What were the attitudes of the men in the beer hall? Why were they not listening to what Paul had to say

The older men at the beer hall do not know the realities of war. THey think Germany is winning and they all have strategy advice for Paul. They do not listen to how utterly futile the German war effort is going.

The men at the beer garden, including his former teacher talk nonsense about the war, acting as if they know exactly what is going on even though they're completely ignorant. When he corrected them and tried to explain how things really were....... he was told he didn't know what he was talking about.
