Why does Arthur Miller choose to reveal that Larry committed suicide so late in the play?

In a way, the knowledge of Larry's suicide cements the end of the play. Convincing Kate that Larry is not coming back and revealing that his suicide was based on his belief in his father's guilt, the story sets the reader up for yet another suicide since there seems little to live for in the lives of the main characters.
