what is the atmosphere like when Ann comes on stage?

There is major tension when Ann shows up, specifically regarding the interplay between her and Kate. Ann was supposed to marry Larry but is now engaged to Chris. Kate hates this because it means another reason that her son (larry) won't come home. Ann is also just as tenacious as Kate and refuses to get drawn into Kate's manipulations.
