George had cut off all contact with Steve (his father) thinking that Steven was to blame for the faulty airplane parts. When the play opens George has just visited his father (Steven) for the first time. George has become convinced of his father's innocence and Joe Keller's guilt. George's role in act two reminds Joe of his repressed guilt. George reminds all the characters of their own private guilt and delusions over the past.
