In terms of All My Sons? Optimism has no place in this play. Joe Keller lives with murder, and the incarceration of an innocent man on his hands. Kate Keller covers for her husband and grieves the loss of a son that she cannot accept. Chris can't move on because of his mother, and Ann discovers her reasons for abandoning her father were wrong. All of these people are trapped in their own miseries. We keep our fingers crossed for Ann and Chris, as an audience, we can hold onto optimism.
