Chris does not value money in the same way that his father does. His father operates on the "it's only business" principle and so is willing to ship defective parts. However, he does not look beyond his profit, even though those parts have led to some destruction of his own family. Chris tries to be more of a realist and wants to make his father take responsibility for his actions. However, when Joe kills himself, Chris has nothing left to do. His mother tells him not to blame himself, but the reader has no idea what Chris will do next.
