Consider everything from the faulty plane parts being sent to the gunshot signifying the suicide of Joe Keller at the end of the play. Much of what is "unexpected" in this play isn't that unexpected. Much of it is fuelled by internal and external tension that simmers and eventually explodes in emotional ways that only seem unexpected.
