keller (looking at the letter in his hands) : "then what is this if it isn't telling me? sure he was my son.but i think to him they were all my sons.and i guess they were.."

Keller realizes that all the boys who fought in the war were his sons and that he is responsible for the faulty plain parts that killed the pilots. After years of denial, he is forced to acknowledge that the soldiers who died as a direct result of his actions were someone's sons, and they all might as well have been his sons.
