The girls are naturally overjoyed at their liberation by the Czech soldiers. A US soldier, Kurt Klein, tells Gerda that the Red Cross is setting up a hospital for them. Gerda will eventually become his wife. At the hospital, Gerda is given her first warm bath in three years as well as her first glass of milk in three three years.
