Alicia: My Story Background

 Alicia: My Story is the autobiographical account of Alicia Appleman-Jurman, a Polish-born Israeli–American writer who wrote about her experiences in enduring the Holocaust. The autobiography was published in Toronto and New York by Bantam in 1988.  

Alicia speaks about the struggles and difficult ordeals she had to endure during this period of persecution, as well as the impact that the numerous deaths, including her own family, had on her. The novel is a book about survival and enduring even the most difficult hardships. Alicia recalls her escape from Germany and the Nazi’s and her membership into the underground German resistance group, Bricha, which helped Jews to smuggle out of Germany.  

The book is now held in 1176 libraries and has been translated into French, German, Danish, Swedish and Spanish. A sequel to the book was also released, Alicia: My Story Continues: a Journey in Historical Photographs.
