Ali: Fear Eats the Soul is a West German film that was directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder and was released on 1974. The film stars Brigitte Mira as Emmi Kurowski and El Hedi ben Salem as Ali also Barbara Valentin as Barbara respectively.

The movie follows young Moroccan Immigrant, Ali, and Emmi, a 60-year old widow as they fall into an unlikely love affair. Their relation is met with disgust by Emmi's friends and family as they label her a whore and ostracize her for marrying an immigrant. Fassbinder explores the change in Emmi's attitude towards Ali as she begins to form a similar mentality and becomes increasingly ' German' and adopts a xenophobic attitude in order to fit into society.

The film has been praised highly and has also been noted for being one of Fassbinder's best movies. It has also won two awards at the 1974 Cannes Film Festival and Brigitte Mira received the German Film Award for her performance as Emmi.
