Why is Meg Murry unhappy in school?

Meg is a bit of a misfit. She wears braces and is teased. She doesn't do well with authority figures and finds the principal unsympathetic and intrusive. Meg also has some pretty low self esteem.

She doesnt get along with people in her class or the school she goes.
