Why haven't the children been fed since they left earth?

Although they may feel hungry, travelling through time/space is not the same length of time as it is on Earth so the hunger is not immediate. 

To add on to Aslan's comment, the science of itself is that the wrinkle in time literally is bending time by a very large margine.
