Over the course of the novel, Meg learns to embrace her individuality. When we first meet Meg, she's bitter.... somewhat of an outcast. She's different than the other children she knows, and consequently, isolates herself even further because she cannot except those differences. Meg also learns that knowledge isn't the only or most important tool we have for solving our problems. She learns that love is just as important... that love is an integral part of all of our journeys. In addition, Meg learns that beauty isn't just skin deep... outward beauty is secondary to the beauty we carry inside of us. Meg finds courage when she feels weakest; she feels compassion when she has none to give.... Meg comes to put others before herself... one of the lessons of love, and she learns that evil can be conquered.
