Wollstonecraft's major reason for writing A Vindication of the Rights of Women, was to make understood (in response to the major social and cultural changes of her time) that rights themselves cannot be based on tradition, only reason and rationality. She was very concerned about the plight of women and placed particular focus on education. Education was something she viewed as a must for women's freedom and independence.
