A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings

Why is this perspective convenient for an author to use?

Extended question: The point of view is one we will see frequently in Latin American literature. Based on what we know about magical realism, why would this point of view be convenient for an author to use?

A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings is narrated in the third-person omniscient, point of view. The narrator informs the reader of all the action, but does not tell the story from any one character's perspective. The narrator, however, infuses his or her, feelings into the narrative. This helps habituate the reader to the more supernatural aspects of the story.
