    What is the significance of Blanche's eye-roll in this scene?

    While she is fending off Mitch's advances, Blanche allows herself the luxury of an eye-roll, knowing Mitch cannot see her. This tells the audience that, first, Blanche is definitely not the blushing violet she pretends to be in her interactions with Mitch. Flirting is often a convenient fiction for both parties, and playing hard-to-get can provide both parties an enjoyable, measured way of taking it slow. Blanche knows she is putting on an act.
