Why does lepers testimony upset finny?

Finny doesn't care anymore because Leper's testimony makes it virtually impossible for him to continue to protect Gene. Finny doesn't want to admit the truth, he doesn't want Gene implicated, what he wants is his friend. Leper's testimony brings Finny to tears, he just wants to go on. He wants the secret to remain a secret, but it can no longer remain a secret because it is no longer just a silence between he and Gene; it's public and it's ugly.
