why do the boys create a new secret society? what is the significant of the name?

Like many boys, creating a society with an edgy daredevil name was attractive. The "Super Suicide Society of the Summer Session" gave them a sense of belonging, fraternity and boyhood masculinity. Also the word suicide becomes a subtle motif in the story. The story is filled with adolescent angst and although not stated, there are times many of the characters reflect depths of emotional despair that might lead to suicide.
