Finny is his rebellious self; he dismisses the war as largely propaganda.  He questions the status-quo. Finny tells Gene that the "war stuff" is a myth. Finny questions if there is really a war at all, it's all a big conspiracy. He thinks a bunch of "fat old men" don't want the younger generation "crowding them out their jobs."
