why does mama start talking about her husband? what do we learn about him(act 2: scene 3)

please help!!!

She says (and I think you are in Act 2 Scene 2) "My husband always said being any kind of a servant wasn't a fit thing for a man to have to be. He always said a man's hands was made to make things, or to turn the earth with - not to drive nobody's car for 'em --or-- carry they slop jars" This shows us the kind of role model that Walter had to show him how to be a man.
