A Raisin in the Sun

The money that is mentioned on pp. 26, 28, and 36 is the insurance money left to Mrs. Lena Younger, Walter Lee's and Beneatha's mother, after the death of her husband, their father.

Walter Lee is the only one in the family that seems to think he has a right to some of it. Why is this? What is it about Walter Lee that makes him so persistent (pushy) about getting his money?

Walter considers himself the man of the house.... thus, he believes the money should be used as a means for him to better their lives. He is being selfish and self-centered.
