Alone
We see Walter Lee standing in the front of the composition with Ruth behind him and Lena sitting. Ruth and Lena are excited about the new house they have. Walter is alone in the room as all he thinks of is his dreams, and the imagery shows this.
Man in the Mirror
Walter Lee learns that Willy took the $6,500 and starts to go mad. We see him in the reflection of the mirror in the living room. The image tells us that he is becoming another man in this moment, he's being transformed.
Dreaming
At the beginning of the film we see Walter Lee asleep in a close-up. The imagery tells us exactly who he is, a man who dreams. This is where he exisits in a place that is not rooted in reality. And when he wakes up he is upset that he must awaken to the world.
Decreasing
After Walter Lee learns his mother will not be giving him the money to go into business, he argues with her. After the argument he opens the door and descends the stairs. With the door still open we watch as Walter becomes smaller with every step. The imagery tells us that Walter Lee has become less because he cannot live out his dream.
