A Long Way Gone

What impact does the war have on the people of Sierra Leone? How do people view the war if they are not directly impacted by the war?

This answer can be found in either chapter one or chapter two.

People are killed, injured, maimed and displaced. I don't think the average person feels a connection to any side unless they are somehow indoctrinated or offered some sort of security. I think they cope as well as they can: they simply try to survive day by day. I imagine people displaced by war would look for refuge in NGO camps like the United Nations.
