The uncertainty that war brings is brought about through starvation, constant panic and the massive displacement of the populations. Families, like Beah's, are separated. People fear children are soldiers. People are weary of strangers, uncertain if they are dangerous of benign. There is never any security as violence can break out at a moments notice.
