Chapter Eleven is a transition chapter because it is the chapter in which hope is lost, regrets are made, and the future becomes almost nonexistent. The nature of the transition includes the burning of the village, the fate of Beah's family, his regrets over his treatment of Gasemu, and the mystery that is his future.
