There is an honor to respecting elders before the war started. Elders were considered wise; they had stories they would pass down which acted as parables or cautionary tales for children. This changes as child soldiers are indoctrinated into a very violent ideology. Elderly people are seen as sick and disposable: they are acceptable collateral damage.
