The Impact/influence that fear had on people?

 Fear impacted all the characters in this novel. The boys were scared because they lost their family and were in constant danger of being killed or kidnapped. They were starving and homeless. Others feared the boys because they could be child soldiers. Ordinary villagers were in constant fear of raids from the RUF or even their own government soldiers.
