A Long Way Gone

Judge the book by its cover.

Notice shoes, colors, contrast between front and back of book. The front image is not a photo of Ishamel Beah. What do you think the artist and publisher wanted to say and reveal with this choice of art? (Use specific references to the art. At least 5 sentences)

The cover alludes to the story.... the story of a boy, a child soldier. As Beah likely had no photographs of himself from this period and probably wouldn't have wanted the reminder if he did, another child (boy) was used to illustrate the cover. This choice of picture supports the idea of the novel and coveys a message to the consumer. It draws attention and interest... something every author desires to do.
