A Long Way Gone

In the book A Long Way Gone, how was Sierra Leone described before the war?

How is it different from after the war?

Prior to the Civil War most of the residents of Sierra Leone were involved in agriculture; mineral exports (particularly diamonds and gold) were mainly smuggled out of the country, and they didn't bring in much money from exports because of that. The corruption on the other hand, eventually brought the country to the edge of collapse. Thus, the war.
