How does the story end?

The novel ends with Beah's final escape from Sierra Leone after the death of his beloved Uncle, and the memory of his grandfather's story about the monkey. This story affords the reader Beah's personal insight toward the oppressors in Sierra Leone. Beah makes it very clear that his own story will hopefully expose the atrocities in his homeland, as well as to help end them.
