Adult men seem to have been available in Sierra Leone at the time Beah was recruited into the army. Why recruit middle-school age boys instead of adult men to fight?

Young boys are easier to manipulate, frighten, and mold..... that, and they're looking for security..... the opportunity to belong. Young boys are the perfect recruits.
