A Long Way Gone

30: “It hadn't crossed their minds that a change of environment wouldn't immediately make us normal boys; we were dangerous, and brainwashed to kill” (p. 135). What process does Beah need to go through in order to become “normal”? What is “normal” by his or our standards?

Beah and the others had just begun the process of rehabilitation. The boys had been brainwashed by the military, they were dependent upon various drugs...... they were trained to kill. The boys were dangerous, and it would take time and effort to undo the damage inflicted upon their young minds.

The second part of your question calls for your opinion.
