I don't think that Grant is a completely dynamic character. Grant’s perspective changes as a result from his time with Jefferson as well as influence from Tante Lou and Reverend Ambrose. Grant becomes a little less cynical and less self-absorbed. I don't think that Grant will somehow become an agent for major social change; Rev. Ambrose is strong because of his faith and his self-discipline.
