A Lesson Before Dying

Someone in the courthouse notes that "The Lord died between 12 and 3." Why mention this?

The reason is in chapter 30 and 31, but I can't understand the full meaning of why the author would have a person in the courthouse make that statement.

This is mentioned because it alludes to the time that Jesus, an innocent, was executed. This aligns with Jefferson's innocence.
