How does grant seem to embody some of the same characteristics as Matthew Antoine?

Matthew Antoine was very cynical about his students' prospects in South Africa. He advised his students to leave the South because no freedom or justice could be found here for poor blacks, and he inspires many of Grant’s lessons about dignity.Grant also takes on this sense of cynicism and futility about his own country.
