Why is Jeffersons execution set for the 2nd Friday after Easter? What biblical allusion are we supposed to understand? How is this ironic?

The Mayor did not want the execution to be any closer to Easter or during Lent. There is the Biblical allusion of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection. The irony is that Jefferson becomes a Christ-figure in the novel even though the court treats him as a criminal.
