A Lesson Before Dying

. What is the pattern of point of view and focus from chapter to chapter? Is there a correspondence or symmetry among the chapters or among groups of chapters?

Gaines utilizes first-person narration, and the story is told from Grant's perspective of the events. Although, it is Grant telling Jefferson's story, we are however, not limited to his point of view. Grant often reports events as he's been apprised of them through other characters by using verbage that illustrates something he's been told. For example, Grant repeatedly uses the phrase, "I learned later . . .".
