The fifth of seven planned novels in A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin, A Dance with Dragons was the first novel that was published after the show that was based on it had started. This novel is divided in two parts and was published in this manner. The titles of these parts are Dreams and Dust and After the Feast.
The plot of the novel is essentially told by a multitude of voices, telling fragmented stories that simultaneously occur in territorially distinct landscapes narrating the tale after Stannis Baratheon has occupied the wall.
The novel delineates a series of significant themes like war, identity and power. Many of the events of the novel have been channeled directly into a single season of the television series Game of Thrones; however, there are elements of the fifth book that had already been appropriated in earlier seasons.
