Why do we see Scrooge as a different kind of person on Christmas Day?

Scrooge's eyes have been opened by his visitors. He has been reminded of the boy and young man he once was, the things he gave up, and the things that could be. He has seen his mistakes first hand, visited his regrets, and is ready to make up for lost time and the past mistakes he can remedy.
